Shaman

is a tune I wrote on a trip to Tarapoto a city in the San Martín region of northern Peru, characterised by Amazonian cloud forest and abundant palm trees. I was staying with a friend who works as a shaman/musician next to the river Cumbaza, one day the river was at a low ebb so I decided to go down into it and work something out on the soprano saxophone inspired by surrounding nature.

{Quechua for woman} is a tune that was inspired by the concept of duality in the Andean cosmo-vision. The chacha-warmi (man-woman) is a neologism in the Quechua language used to refer to a code of conduct based on the principle of duality and complementarity in the sexes, it would be equivalent to gender equality
